ADHD can be described as the lotus flower. In the beginning, you feel alone, and it feels as if you are trapped beneath mud trying to survive while you watch everyone and everything grows around you. And then, one day, you realize how to harness your strengths and grow from the mud into the lotus. This journey will be challenging and have good and bad times, but with mindfulness, physical activity, and acceptance, we will help you harness your strengths to turn your ADHD into a positive rather than a negative.
When treating ADHD, I take a three-step approach. First, I use Acceptance and commitment therapy. For many years, I tried to run and hide from my ADHD and it wasn’t until I accepted my diagnosis as me being unique and not different that I was able to better myself and decrease my symptoms. We will help you to learn to accept your ADHD diagnosis and to use core values to help better yourself. Second, I use cognitive behaviorally therapy. When treating ADHD, we will learn to reframe how we think about ourselves and our diagnosis. Third, we will use mindfulness motivation techniques to help create focus and concentration tools to aid in everyday struggles. Some of these techniques will be mindfulness meditation, physical activities, and daily living skills.
